The Clubhouse will be a place where men, women and children living with cancer and their families and friends can join with others to build emotional and social support.
Gilda's Club Greater Washington will provide
- A comfortable and nurturing homelike environment for those who enter and become members;
- A comfortable living room for informal gatherings;
- A library for recreational reading and Internet access;
- An art workshop and an exercise room;
- The Gilda's Club Basic III 'Plus' Program, which includes support and
networking groups, lectures, workshops, and social events in a
nonresidential, homelike setting;
- "Noogieland," a room full of goodies and activities designed to meet the special needs of children and teens with cancer, and children and teens who have a family member or friend living with cancer;
- The "It's Always Something Room"--a cozy nook for quiet meditation;
- Meeting rooms for wellness groups and family groups;
- A large community room for parties, dances, joke fests, programs, and;
- A kitchen for nutrition education and cooking classes;
The Gilda's Club Greater Washington Clubhouse will be open to everyone regardless of age, sex, race, disability, type or stage of cancer, economic, marital or social status. Membership in Gilda's Club is free!
Gilda's Club is sorely needed in the Greater Washington area. Nothing like it exists here, where cancer rates rank among the highest in the nation.
